How to Figure Out Gross Pay

Your gross pay is defined as the combination of every way you earn money -- hourly rate, overtime, commission or anything else for which you are paid. In determining gross pay you do not subtract any deductions ,such as taxes, benefits or 401k deductions. Calculating your gross pay is an easy process as long as you have a copy of your most recent pay stub.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the pay stubs for the time period for which you need to calculate your gross pay. Find the section on the stub that itemizes your pay for that period. Ignore the deductions and year- to-date earnings.

    • 2

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you worked and write that number down. If you worked overtime, multiply your overtime rate of pay by the number of overtime hours worked and write that number down. Write down any other forms of payment, such as commission.

    • 3

Add all of these figures together. The total is your gross pay for that time period.
