How Do I Incorporate a Movie Into a Lesson Plan?

Incorporating movies into your lesson plans can be an educational break that your students will appreciate. You can also use the time to do some planning or grading. The length of the movie will depend on the age of your students. Elementary school students should only be shown 15 to 20 minute movies or clips, as movies longer than that could lead to children becoming fidgety. Middle and high school students should be able to watch longer movies.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a movie to introduce your lesson. Show a short clip of a movie, cartoon or TV show that demonstrates the lesson you are about to teach. After the movie, discuss the concepts of the lesson with your students.

    • 2

Show a movie in the middle of your lesson. After you have introduced the topic of your lesson and discussed it with your students, show a short film clip to demonstrate the idea. Afterwards, continue with lesson activities.

    • 3

Use a movie to wrap up your lesson. After the lesson activities are finished, you can use a relevant short movie as "down time" for you and your students. It can even be used as a reward, letting your students know that if they finish on time they will get to watch a movie.
