How to Make a Puzzle Based on Mathematics

As an educator, you have the challenge of making learning as fun and engaging as possible. Your students will learn better and become more engaged in class as a result of your mathematical creativity. You can create a puzzle based upon mathematics with a few simple steps. You can then use the puzzle in the manner of your choosing, perhaps having a competition that awards a prize to the quickest puzzle solver in the class.

Instructions

    • 1

Form the puzzle grid. Create a grid similar to a crossword puzzle. Use both vertical and horizontal clues.

    • 2

Create equations. Start with a number to begin the grid, for example, the number 2. Enter in an equation between that 2 and the next blank box. For example, "Add four" or "Multiply by 6, then subtract 3." Populate the entire grid with instructions for getting to the next number.

    • 3

Add in a final block. The final block represents the solution to the math puzzle grid.
