Make a mountain out of the lump of modeling clay that is approximately 4 inches high. The mountain needs to be flat at the bottom, but can be any shape all the way to the top.
Poke a hole through the center of the mountain all the way from the top to the bottom. Poke a second hold next to the first using the same method. Use the ruler to make marks every 1 inch from the top of the mountain in the clay to separate it into four equal sections.
Use the dental floss to cut off the top layer of the mountain. Wrap the ends of a piece of floss around your fingers and wrap the floss around the mountain at the point that was marked in Step 2. Pull the floss tight to cut off the top slice. Try to make the cut as even as possible.
Place the top layer onto the paper and use the pencil to mark the location of the two holes. Use the pencil to draw around the slice to leave its shape on the paper. Put the slice aside.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the other slices of the mountain, working your way down to the bottom. Use the toothpicks to hold the slices in place with the holes lined up with the mark on the paper. Once you are finished tracing each slice, you will have a small topographical map of the mountain.
