This is a compliment system that establishes class rules and ensures good behavior. Give out laminated golden cards to a student or the class for showing good class behavior. Also award cards for any improved behavior in individual students; this encourages good behavior pattern. Ask the class to win enough golden cards in a month to enjoy the group reward. Special rewards for the entire class include ideas like extra recess, music, art, physical education or reading time, eating lunch outdoors or holding class outdoors.
Recognize and reward good behavior with special monthly prizes such as badges, stars, trophies or certificates. Identify children with exceptional behavior as awardees for the special monthly prize for behavior. Present the awards to the winning students in front of a school gathering; this motivates the other children to strive for the reward. These special class rewards encourage good behavior and also affirm the child’s worth. These recognition efforts send out the message that good behavior is valued and rewarded well.
Privileges motivate the children to show good behavior. Students enjoy winning privileges as rewards; these rewards make them feel special. Children like to be first in lunch line, design the class or hall bulletin board, get a “no homework” pass, be a leader for a class game, choose an extra recess activity for the class, play an educational game, read the school-wide morning announcement, sit by the teacher’s side or choose a book for read-aloud. Use these privileges as special rewards for good class behavior.
Explain that you will use a point reward system in class to ensure good behavior. Give star or token rewards to children for exhibiting good behavior. Encourage the class to accumulate maximum tokens and earn special rewards. Vary prizes according to the accrued points; school supplies like pens, pencils, erasers, markers, glitters or crayons do well as rewards for 25 tokens; a bigger prize such as a movie pass or a gift certificate to a book store or a sporting goods store are tempting rewards for 100 tokens. Use this incentive-based point reward system to keep students on their best behavior. Record class behavior using a chart that lists the student names and the points earned.
