You can teach your students about adjectives by allowing them to describe themselves on a bulletin board. Instruct each student to submit a picture of herself, along with a one-sentence positive description that includes at least five adjectives. For example, a student could submit a description that reads, "I am a friendly, fun-loving, active, curious and emotional girl." Each student's picture would be posted to the bulletin board along with her self-description.
This idea involves getting the students to describe some of their favorite things. Ask your students to submit pictures and descriptions of their favorite foods, favorite places, favorite people, favorite toys and whatever other categories you wish to include. Be sure to tell them to use as many adjectives as possible in their descriptions. For example, a student may love macaroni-and-cheese. That student could submit a picture of a dish of macaroni-and-cheese and a description that reads, "I love macaroni-and-cheese because it is warm, gooey, cheesy and tasty."
You can also have the class create a short story on a bulletin board. You can start them off with the first sentence, "A furry, fuzzy, orange cat was walking down the street." Then let the class make up the rest of the story using very descriptive sentences. The students would post the story on the bulletin board. They could also use construction paper and poster boards to create illustrations.
Your students could create a bulletin board describing their community. Instruct the students to bring in pictures and descriptions of various places within their neighborhoods. They can describe their homes, churches, the local park, the mall and any other area that they enjoy visiting or that has some significance for them. The students should use several adjectives to describe these areas.
