How to Convert Microinches to Inches

The inch and the microinch both serve to measure small distances in the American system of measurement. The inch is used in everyday measurement, but the microinch is much smaller. Common uses for the microinch include measuring the roughness of optical surfaces, machine tolerances and other precise industrial specs. Since the prefix "micro" represents 10 raised to the negative sixth power in this instance, it takes 1 million microinches to equal one inch.
