How to Convert Micro Inches to Nanometers

Microinches, a unit in the imperial system, and nanometers, a unit in the metric system, both measure very small units of distance. The microinch equals 10^-6 inches because the prefix "micro" stands for 10^-6. The nanometer, abbreviated nm, equals 10^-9 meters. The nanometer was first introduced in 1951 and replaced the old unit, the millimicron. Knowing that it takes 25.4 nanometers to equal 1 microinch allows you to easily convert between the two units.
