Decorating Ideas for a Scholastic Book Fair

Scholastic is a company that provides books for school-aged children. It has a close relationship with schools and strives to help them raise money to buy books for their library and classrooms. Scholastic has a program where schools can hold a book fair, and some of the money raised goes to the school.
  1. Scholastic Logo Decorating Ideas

    • Use the Scholastic logo to decorate the book fair venue. The logo is red with white lettering and features a simple white icon of an open book. Use this logo to decorate a sheet cake to feed guests. Check with the school officials before bringing food into a school-sponsored event. The Scholastic logo can also be used to create bookmarks to give away. Create a large logo to decorate the entrance to the book fair or as the focal point for the room.

    "Hats Off to Reading"

    • On its website, Scholastic has suggestions for book fair themes and provides theme-specific materials to download, including bulletin board and decoration ideas. A school can also choose to supplement Scholastic decorations with other decoration ideas. Choose a "Hats Off to Reading" theme and decorate the venue with Scholastic licensed decorations or create your own. Ask students to wear crazy hats when they attend the fair and be ready with a camera. Print the pictures and put them up as decorations.

    "Book Fair Treasure Hunt"

    • A "Book Fair Treasure Hunt" theme can be a fun inspiration for decoration. Create a large treasure box by spray painting a cardboard box with gold spray paint. Fill the box with books to imply that books are a treasure. Or leave the box empty and ask guests to buy a book to donate to a child in need. Use real or silk palm tree plants (available at a nursery or home decor store) or choose paper or honeycomb silk plants to decorate (available at party supply stores). Hire actors and actresses to portray pirates and roam the venue. Include a famous literary pirate, such as Peter Pan's Captain Hook.

    Other Decorating Ideas

    • Create a festive book fair atmosphere by covering the walls of the venue with butcher paper and creating a mural. Paint scenes from classic story books such as Cinderella's castle or Treasure Island. You could also highlight a few famous literary figures, such authors or book characters. Create cardboard cutout figures of the authors or characters and place them in corners or against walls. Another simple idea is to decorate with books. Use an image of stacked books to cover walls or in signs to advertise the event. Scholastic books can be stacked at the sign in table and used in other decorative ways. Photos of book covers can be enlarged and taped to the venue walls. Use photos of books that are popular or that you want to highlight.
