Obtain study guides. Study guides are available for all courses and grade levels required to take the EOG tests. Check with your state's Department of Education website to obtain study guides. In addition, send study materials home with students.
Take practice tests. EOG practice tests are available online. Go to your state's Department of Education website to download sample tests. In addition, companies such as EDinformatics often have sample EOG tests from different states available on their websites.
Offer after school help. Schedule after-school sessions to provide extra time for working with students who are struggling in certain areas. Encourage parents to follow through with EOG preparation homework assignments.
Recommend a tutor. If you notice a student in need of more one-on-one study help, recommend a tutor. Suggest the parent have a tutor assist the student in any subject areas she is struggling with and help her practice for the upcoming EOG tests.
Encourage parents to follow up at home. Send a note or meet with parents of your students to encourage them to teach children good study habits. Ask parents to require a certain amount of time be spent studying in the weeks prior to the test so students are thoroughly prepared and confident. Request students go to bed early the night before EOG tests begin. Suggest parents prepare a good breakfast for children on test day and arrive at school on time. Have parents remind students to answer all test questions and not leave any blank, even if they unsure about the answer.
Offer incentives. Students enjoy working for a prize, whether it be a pizza party, ice cream treat or a fun day. Come up with a reward to encourage students to work hard and look forward to the prize upon successful completion. Some schools offer a gift card to students who show the most growth on the EOG in each grade.
