Determine the GPA number for each individual class grade. Use the following chart to determine the individual class's GPA number.
A+ or A or 94 to 100% = 4.0
A- or 90 to 93% = 3.7
B+ or 87 to 89% = 3.3
B or 84 to 86% = 3.0
B- or 80 to 83% = 2.7
C+ or 77 to 79 = 2.3
C or 74 to 76 = 2.0
C- or 70 to 73 = 1.7
D+ or D or D- = 1.0
F = 0
Write down the GPA number for each class on the sheet of paper.
Determine the GPA number for each class factored by the number of units. Using a calculator if necessary, multiply each class's GPA number by the number of units that class is worth and write the total for each class on the paper.
EXAMPLE:
If you had an A- in Biology that is a two-unit class and a B+ in Art Appreciation that is a one-unit class, your factored GPA numbers would look like this:
Biology = A- = 3.7 x 2 units = 7.4 factored GPA number
Art Appreciation = B+ = 3.3 x 1 unit = 3.3 factored GPA number
Total all of the factored GPA numbers, for all of your classes. Using the calculator, if needed, add together each of the factored GPA numbers to determine your total factored GPA number.
EXAMPLE:
Using the same details from the example above, your calculations should look like this:
Biology = A- = 3.7 x 2 units = 7.4 factored GPA number
Art Appreciation = B+ = 3.3 x 1 unit = 3.3 factored GPA number
7.4 (Biology factored GPA number) + 3.3 (Art Appreciation factored GPA number) = 10.7 total factored GPA number
Determine the total number of units you've taken. Add together the number of units for each class that you've taken, during the period you are trying to determine your GPA. Write this down on your piece of paper.
EXAMPLE:
Continuing from our example above, you would have 3 total units.
2 Biology units + 1 Art Appreciation unit = 3 units
Determine your GPA. Using your calculator, divide your total factored GPA number by your total unit number. This is your GPA.
EXAMPLE:
Again, using our example, your calculations should look like this:
Biology = A- = 3.7 x 2 units = 7.4 factored GPA number
Art Appreciation = B+ = 3.3 x 1 unit = 3.3 factored GPA number
7.4 (Biology factored GPA number) + 3.3 (Art Appreciation factored GPA number) = 10.7 total factored GPA number
2 Biology units + 1 Art Appreciation unit = 3 units
10.7 total factored GPA number ÷ 3 units = 3.57 GPA
