Write down both numbers that you will be using. For an example, when dividing 9 by 1.45 write down 1.45 and 9.
Move the decimal points an equal number of places in both numbers so that neither number has a decimal point. This requires adding zeroes to the end of the shorter number. In the example, 9 becomes 900, and 1.45 becomes 145.
Divide as usual. Therefore, 900 divided by 145 equals 6.21.
Do not move the decimal point in the answer.
Check with a calculator or by multiplying the answer by one of the original numbers, if desired. For the example, 6.21 multiplied by 1.45 equals 9.
