How to Express Decimals in Hundred-Thousandths

If you are expressing a decimal to the hundred-thousandths place, this means you need to round off any number to the right of the fifth digit after the decimal. This is basic mathematics, where you round either up or down depending on the digit next to the fifths digit after the decimal. If the number is five or more, then you round up. If the number is four or less, then you round down.

Instructions

    • 1

Write your decimal. For example, assume your decimal is 0.04382794.

    • 2

Highlight your fifth digit after the decimal. In the example, 2 is the fifth digit after the decimal.

    • 3

Look at the number directly after your highlighted number. If it is five or more, then add one to your highlighted number and erase the numbers to the right of your highlighted number. If it is four or less, then keep your highlighted number the same and erase the numbers to the right of your highlighted number. In the example, seven is higher than five, so your two is now a three. The rounded number is 0.04383.
