How to Make a Suggestion Box for the Classroom With a Shoe Box

Students and teachers alike visit the same classroom five days a week for approximately nine months of the year. Both need to feel that the classroom works efficiently so that it leads to a successful school year. However, sometimes a student or a teacher has a suggestion to improve classroom learning facilities or atmosphere, which can be put to good use so that improvements are made. For this to happen, a suggestion box is a novel concept. Anytime someone in the classroom has a suggestion to improve or change something, they can put a suggestion into the box and their ideas automatically become something considered by the entire classroom.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a knife to cut a slit in the top of your shoe box large enough to accommodate the index cards or papers you plan to use for suggestions. Measure the size of the comment cards and cut the slit in the box slightly longer and wider than the card.

    • 2

Decorate the exterior of the suggestion box by cutting out letters from colorful construction paper that spell out the name of the class, such as “Mrs. Smith’s English Class.” Glue the letters to one side of the box.

    • 3

Cut out the word “Suggestions” from colorful construction paper and glue the word to the opposite side of the box.

    • 4

Add more decorations such as magazine cutouts of books or other items that correspond with the subject of the classroom. For example, if the class is math you can cut out numbers and use pictures of calculators on the box.

    • 5

Place the box in a visible spot and provide a writing utensil and comment cards for students to use.
