How to Make a History Review Game for the Classroom

The information you impart in history class is often difficult for students to internalize since it includes many facts and details. Students may struggle because they are required to recall information regarding time periods and lifestyles that they have not experienced and do not understand. Help students remember history lessons by playing engaging review games in class.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide the class into teams and position the desks in your classroom in rows. Assign one row to each team and ensure that the groups have even numbers of students.

    • 2

Ask the student in the first desk of the first row to answer a question based on a recent history lesson. Give him 30 seconds to think of the answer.

    • 3

Give his team a point if he comes up with the right answer. Instruct the entire team to shift forward one desk and send the person from the front desk to the back of the line.

    • 4

Offer the person sitting in the first desk of the second row an opportunity to answer the question if the first contestant fails. If this person gets it right, her team gets a point and shifts seats.

    • 5

Ask contestants who miss their questions to remain seated in their desks. Each student must answer a question correctly before her row can shift and she can move to the desk at the back of the line.
