Choose your music wisely, and with the assistance of a coach who knows your artistic style. Additionally, the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique, the international governing board for women's artistic gymnastics, specifically requires that the gymnastics floor music must not exceed 90 seconds (1:30); any skills performed after this time will not be judged, and a 0.01 deduction will be taken for going over time. Other deductions can be taken if the music has words, contains insufficient rhythm changes, and if the feeling of the music isn't adequately expressed by the gymnast.
Download or upload the song onto a computer. Insert a blank, recordable CD into your CD drive.
Time the section that you want to use. You must use an uninterrupted stretch of instrumental music that lasts 90 seconds.
Cut out the segment of the song that you want using an audio editing program, such as iTunes, Audacity (which can be downloaded for free), or Windows Media Player. Save it as a WAV or AIFF file.
Burn the saved segment to your CD. Eject your CD, play it in a CD player, and time it again. Write your name, the song title, and the verified time on the CD with a permanent marker.
