How to Find State Funding for High School Athletic Programs

Funding high school athletic programs is a constant draw on school resources, and administrators are always looking for ways to take the burden off of the budget. Fundraisers and corporate sponsorship are some methods that have been tried, but another option is to get a government grant. State governments may have grant programs that are designed to help athletics and other extracurricular activities. It helps to know where to look to find these grants, however.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your state's department of education home page. This is the most likely place for you to find state government grants.

    • 2

Search the website for athletics grants. You can search for grants for specific sports, for general athletics grants, and, more generally, for grants for extracurricular activities. The details for the grants should be listed on the website, and you should be able to see whether or not your school qualifies to apply for the grant money available.

    • 3

Send an email to the help desk of the site. Explain that you're trying to find grants for your high school's athletic programs, but that you want to be sure you got all of the available grants in your search. List the ones you found, and ask if there are others that you didn't locate.

    • 4

Apply for the grants that you qualify for. Once your grant application has been received, a governing body will decide whether or not to reward your particular athletics programs with the money you applied for.
