Elementary school kids are always reading and kindergarten kids are just learning how to read. Make a bulletin board that says "Read Along with Me." Help the children draw covers of the books they are reading and staple these on the board. Put the child's name next to his selection of books. This activity helps other kids to see what their peers are reading and talk about different stories. If you have several kids in your class you can let each child feature one book cover.
Elementary school bulletin boards also highlight events and special occasions. Decorate an Autumn-themed bulletin board featuring pictures of the children at pumpkin harvests and carnivals. Ask the kids to bring in fallen leaves from home and glue these on the border of the bulletin board. Some ideas for titles are "Fall Expressions" or "The Joys of Fall." Update the board with pictures of the kids during Thanksgiving and hang up Thanksgiving art as well.
Elementary school students begin learning about history as early as kindergarten. Celebrate history by decorating a bulletin board that highlights the aspects of a different time. Feature pictures or art from the past along with Native American embellishments and other designs. Feature historical art the children paint and hang these up on the board as well. Ideas for a heading include "A Walk Back Through Time," "Treasure Your History," or "Treasures from the Past."
Feature a bulletin board with animals from Africa such as zebras, monkeys and elephants. An idea for a heading might be "Journey to Africa" or "African Wonders." Create a background that looks like African landscapes or a watering hole. You can also simply decorate the board with animals only and use dark blue poster-board to make the creatures stand out.
