Grade 5 Classroom Discipline Rules

When a new group of fifth graders arrive in your classroom, you must establish rules for them to follow. If children are aware of how they are supposed to act, they will be more likely to behave themselves in class.
  1. Dishonesty

    • On the first day of class, make it clear to your fifth graders that any form of dishonesty is unacceptable, whether it is copying someone else's homework or looking at a neighbor's test answers. Explain to them that cheating is unfair to the students who put a lot of effort into their school work. Tell them that cheating will result in a failing grade.

    Be Prepared for Class

    • Students should bring their books to class with them every day. If students constantly have to go to their lockers to get their books during class, it will slow the teacher down. In addition, tell your students to never leave their books at home.

    Respect Others

    • It is common for elementary school children to tease one another. As a teacher, you must tell your fifth graders to respect each other. Explain to each of them that it makes others feel bad when they are being teased. Also, tell your students to be quiet when another student is presenting in front of the class.

    Be Punctual

    • It is important for every student to be punctual. Tell your students that all assignments are expected to be turned in on time. Set strict rules. For example, if an assignment is turned in a day late, deduct one letter grade from the assignment.
