Children should show their teacher and peers respect. When the teacher is giving a lecture, children should refrain from doing other work or talking to their neighbors. Children should also be attentive when another student speaks in front of the class. Being kind is another sign of respect. Children should not laugh or make fun of a student who is different.
Students should turn in their homework on the due date. Turning in late homework is not fair for the students who turned in their homework on time. Teachers should talk about how late work may not be accepted in high school or college, and that there are serious consequences to turning in late work in their future careers.
Students should always come to class on time. While occasionally being late is understandable with a proper excuse, constant tardiness is unacceptable. Showing up late disrupts the class because other students are likely to become distracted by a student walking in.
Bringing books to class is important. Students who come to class unprepared are unable to read along in class or complete their work without the appropriate books. Teachers may only have a few extra books, so students should always remember to bring their books with them.
Teachers should discipline students who refuse to follow the rules. They should make students aware of the consequences of not following the rules in the beginning of the school year. For example, if a student disrupts the class, he should receive a warning the first time it occurs. If he continues to break the rules, a teacher may require him to stay after school or call his parents.
