Book Report Ideas on Cereal Boxes

Book reports are a type of school assignment related to reading. Students read a book and must report on the content of the book in a written or oral form. One idea teachers might decide to use is a cereal box book report. Students read the book and then, instead of a written report, make a cereal box design based on the book.
  1. Cereal Names

    • Teachers who assign a cereal box book report require students to make up a cereal name that relates to the book in some manner, but is not the title of the book. The cereal name might be something like "Shovel O's" for the book "Holes" to relate the cereal name to the storyline.

    Ingredients

    • Ingredients for the cereal boxes typically include the main characters, character descriptions or important elements of the story. For example, the story "Harry Potter" might include that the main character is Harry Potter. Follow through with a brief description, such as "hero and wizard student." Important elements such as "a dash of mystery" might be listed to show that they are vital to the story.

    Nutrition Facts

    • Cereals have a nutrition facts section on one side. In the report, the nutrition facts should list the main elements of the story, such as suspense or romance, and then give a number or percentage representing a "daily amount" the book gives. For example, the report might list humor in the amount of 40 percent to show that the book has an average level of humor.

Scenes From the Book or Games

    • The back of the cereal box can have a game or an illustration, as preferred or directed by a teacher. If using a game, make sure it relates to the story, such as going through a maze to get to Belle from "Beauty and the Beast." If drawing scenes from the book, pick a scene that is important to the book.
