Jack & the Beanstalk Art Activities

"Jack and the Beanstalk" is a classic children's folktale. A boy plants a magical bean that grows into a beanstalk. He climbs the beanstalk to a magical land high in the sky and finds items he needs back down on land, but the native giants living there are keeping him from his task. You can read or tell the story to children, then develop art activities to accompany the folktale.
  1. "Jack and the Beanstalk" Cover

    • Read any version of "Jack and the Beanstalk" and ask the child to paint his favorite scene from the story. Let the child use tempera paint for a more abstract painting or watercolors for a more detailed one.

    Decorative Flower Pot

    • In the story, Jack plants a magical bean that grows into a beanstalk. Purchase a flower pot at your local garden store and allow the child to decorate it using paint, paint pens and glitter. Allow her to choose a seed to plant in the pot, and watch the bean grow.

    Bean Art

    • Use beans to create a decorative mosaic. Purchase a mixed variety of beans at your grocery store and glue them on 4-inch by 4-inch square tile. Supervise this activity and use a hot glue gun to hold the beans to the tile. Cover the entire tile or simply create a single shape using the beans. Purchase a wall tile display for the artwork, and put the artwork in your child's room.
