Lay out several different types of pasta, and hand each child a piece of construction paper. Instruct the children to glue pieces of pasta to the paper. Students can write out their names in spaghetti noodles, create faces with elbow macaroni, or create abstract scenes with assorted pasta noodles.
Finger paint allows little fingers to drip and drop colors of paint onto a piece of paper. Encourage the children to draw whatever design they would like. For easier cleanup, you could also adapt this project to an outdoors activity, using shaving cream and a cookie sheet.
Children may create collages using a variety of different objects. Stockpile your art cabinet with drinking straws, yarn, magazine clippings, pine cones, glitter and many other odds and ends. Encourage preschoolers to glue objects onto sheets of paper. Instruct children to use different materials and textures.
Incorporate art into other learning subjects, such as reading. For example, you can instruct your preschoolers to draw pictures or make paper plate masks of different characters in a story. You can also help them create different people and animals using colored pipe cleaners and small magnets.
