Preschool Art Activities for Valentine's Day

A preschooler-created mosaic isn't the usual Valentine's Day art that normally comes home from school. It's just one option for a Valentine's Day craft that allows young to enhance their art skills. With a little paper, paint, glue and imagination, a preschooler can make a treasured piece of art worthy to display on the refrigerator or given to a valentine.
  1. Supplies

    • Valentine's Day activities for preschoolers require an assortment of art supplies. Basic items such as paint, crayons, markers, scissors, paper and glue are readily available in preschool classrooms. Other supplies might include glitter, doilies, heart-themed stickers, heart template for tracing and sequins. An art box for small groups of children offers easy access while they're working on the activity, or teachers can give individual supplies to students. Teachers can avoid disputes over supplies if they ensure they have more than enough for each project.

    Project Ideas

    • Preschool art to celebrate Valentine's Day should be simple and age appropriate, although they may still require adult supervision or help. For example, place a heart-shaped piece of construction paper into an empty heart-shaped candy box. Roll marbles covered in paint around on top of the paper to create a beautiful patterned heart for the child to take home. Other ideas include a heart mosaic using bits of torn construction paper, animals made of different sized hearts and valentine cards made with hands dipped into paint.
