Schools in Overton County, Tennessee

Overton County is a small area of Tennessee that includes the city of Livingston. Residents enjoy vast farm and mountain country with golf and scenic trails. Schools in Overton County offer education to the surrounding Livingston area. Since the area is relatively small, the schools offer middle school as part of their elementary school programs. Overton schools also offer education up to the college level.
  1. Elementary Schools

    • A number of elementary schools exist in Overton County, including A.H. Roberts Elementary. Named after former governor Albert Roberts of Livingston, the school was first established in 1987. Like other schools in Livingston, A.H. Roberts follows Tennessee state standards and provides a monthly newsletter with dates to remember for parents, faculty and students. Students also learn about TCAP, or the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program, which assesses a student's knowledge in comparison to her grade level. Other elementary schools in Overton include Allons, Hilham, Rickman and Wilson.

    Middle Schools

    • Most of the middle schools in Overton incorporate into the elementary school, such as Hilham, Rickman, Wilson and Allons. Livingston Middle School is the only school exclusively for grade five through eight. Livingston offers athletics, such as basketball and cheerleading, in addition to after-school activities like art, cooking, battleball, cake decorating, guitar lessons and computer lab. Students also prepare for TCAP during middle school.

    High School

    • Livingston Academy is the only high school in Overton's school district. Established in 1909 by the Christian Women's Board of Missions of the Christian Church, but the school became a public high school in 1947. Eight new classrooms were also added to the campus in 2001, including a science lab. The Livingston Wildcats have many sports for students to participate in, such as football, soccer, golf, volleyball, basketball, bowling and baseball.

    Adult Education

    • Overton County Adult Education offers courses to adults who need to earn a GED or high school diploma. The school provides small class sizes and individualized instruction to teach basic educational skills. In addition, the school has classes for those who need to brush up on computer skills. Other programs assist veterans in Overton. The Tennessee Technology Center at Livingston also offers college courses for nursing assistants and industry training.
