Free 3rd Grade Games

Third-graders are a rambunctious group, always looking for games that challenge the mind, body and critical thinking. There are free games that are geared toward keeping 3rd graders interested, learning, and most importantly playing for hours. It takes just the right combination of rules and creativity to keep these wild ones at bay.
  1. Counting-Out Games

    • "Old King Tut had a big butt, and what color was it?" "One potato, two potato, three potato, four..." The elaborate counting-out games are hard to forget. Most have specific rules but the ideas of these free games are simple. The selection of who is "it" next is done by counting each syllable as one moves through a group of third-graders. They may have to answer the question or select the next number -- as with the potato game -- but it will determine the winner in very creative ways. Children love to win and students will play for free all day with counting-out games.

    Tag Games

    • Most creative versions of tag involve several rules. The endless list of tag games all revolve around catching other players in the game or running from someone who is "it." Complexity is drawn out in the best third grade tag games, like hide and seek freeze tag with a base of a choice object.

    Guessing Games

    • Twenty pieces of information can be enough to whittle down the cosmos. In guessing games, the goal is to have one third-grader think of a sneaky item or idea. Next, have the other children ask particular questions, one at a time, trying to eventually reveal what the clever student was thinking of. This is no easy task and can be manipulated by rules, such as allowing only 10 questions before the person wins.

    Online Games

    • Great care needs to be selected when considering these free games for third-graders. Thankfully, several teacher organizations and child development considerations go into every selected game for the online games listed at the Jump Start website. This site does require a registration that is free and allows the tracking of the success and development of every student that plays. Online games are a great interactive learning system for young pupils but joining elite sites can help prevent access to inappropriate online games.
