How to Measure the Accuracy of a True Square

Shapes are one of the first things we learn in school along with colors and the alphabet. One of the many shapes that we're taught is a square, which is a two dimensional shape that has four sides that are all the same and four angles that are all 90 degrees. While something might appear to be a square at a glance, you need to be sure that it is a square before you say it's a "true" square.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that the square is two dimensional. A shape that has three dimensions would be a cube, because it would have length, width and height. Squares have only length and width.

    • 2

Measure the four sides of the square to be sure that each side is completely equal to all the others. Even a small length difference will invalidate it being an actual square.

    • 3

Use a protractor to measure the angles. Each of the angles should be 90 degrees because that represents that the lines that make up the square are straight.
