How to Measure a Degree of Angle on the Wall

Teachers looking to demonstrate the use of geometric tools in the classroom can benefit from larger versions of such items as the pencil compass and the protractor to model the measurement process for their students. Using these tools, a teacher can not only measure an angle on a wall, but also show students how to use their own smaller devices to get similar results.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the protractor so that one side of the angle is parallel with the protractor's base, and the vertex is in the small hole in the middle of that base.

    • 2

Make slight adjustments to the positioning of the protractor so that the other side of the angle runs through the numbered curve on the protractor. The hashmarks in between the numbers indicate single degree differences.

    • 3

Make note of the numerical value for the spot where the other angle hits the semicircle. That numerical value will give you the measurement of the angle on the wall, in degrees.
