Choose the seeds you would like to grow. Select ones that grow relatively quickly so they will be well-grown when the project is due. Seeds that grow quickly include radishes, nasturtiums, beans, peas, sweet alyssum, corn, onions and parsley. Read the instructions on the seed packet to ensure the seeds do not have special requirements such as soaking prior to planting.
Select a container for planting the seeds. Possible choices include clean egg cartons, plastic pots or trays. You may also choose to use egg shells as containers. Cook the eggs and carefully crack and remove the the bottom two-thirds of the shell. Draw a face on the egg and the plant growing inside will look like hair growing on top of a head.
Fill the container with potting soil and gently press seeds into the soil. Water the soil until it is moist. Place the container in a sunny window. If planting in egg shells, keep the shells in the egg carton and close the lid. If the temperature outside remains warm, you may leave the container outside. Water the seeds regularly, keeping the soil moist but not soggy.
Record the variables related to growing the plant such as light and water. Keep a daily log including the amount of water given to the plant daily, the time the plant is watered and the amount of sunlight it was exposed to. To provide additional data for the project, plant seeds in two or more containers and vary the amounts of sunlight and water each container receives. Measure the plants as they grow to determine which variables promote the most growth.
