Health classes teach that good personal hygiene helps maintain health and reduces the danger of spreading unsanitary germs. Occasionally, a nurse may speak to students about lice, germs or other ailments related to poor hygiene.
Students are encouraged to wear special outfits in gym class and bring their own towels and shower afterwards.
Even though many classes do not specifically discuss personal hygiene, it is becoming common to see hand sanitizer, paper towels and tissues in all classrooms.
There are often signs to remind students to wash their hands after using a bathroom, and it is common for a hand sanitizer or a sink to be located near dining areas.
Sometimes students encourage their peers to wash their hands or use deodorant. As students mature, they become more aware of personal hygiene---their own and that of their peers.
