How to Create a Story Web Worksheet

Imagine having a report to write and your mind races with all kinds of thoughts but no direction. Reigning in your mind using a well-crafted graphic organizer like a story web worksheet can save hours of frustration. The visual aspect of a story web makes information clearer and helps group concepts together. Also sometimes called an idea web or a mind map, a story web worksheet takes only a few minutes to create either by hand or with software and can be used for everything from a book report to a party plan.

Instructions

  1. Create by Hand

    • 1

Using a pencil, draw a circle in the middle of the page. For a neater look, trace a circle, making the circle about 2 inches in diameter.

    • 2

Draw five lines off of the center circle just drawn. These lines can be varying lengths or all the same length. Just leave room so they do not stretch to the edges of the paper.

    • 3

Draw a circle at the end of each line. Make these circles smaller than the circle in the center. These are the topics generated by the main concept that will be written in the center circle of the web worksheet.

    • 4

Draw a few lines radiating out of the circles just drawn. Lesser ideas will be placed here. These lines are optional.

    • 5

Trace over the pencil lines with a black permanent marker.

    • 6

Copy the story web worksheet you have just drawn using a copy machine.

    Create with Computer

Open a word processing program or graphics program.

    • 8

      Open the drawing toolbar.

    • 9
