Stick Craft Ideas for Children

According to Child Learning Support, wooden craft sticks are popular with children of all ages. Readily available from craft supply stores, craft sticks can be purchased in a variety of colors. Basic concepts such as sorting, color matching and patterns can be taught. Craft sticks, also known as Popsicle sticks, help to strengthen fine motor skills when used in craft applications.
  1. Homemade Tic-Tac-Toe Game

    • Glue craft sticks together in a grid to create a tic-tac-toe game. Use two different color sets of three buttons for game pieces.

    Crayon Sticky Note Holder

    • Use eight craft sticks to create a multi-colored sticky note holder. Use a piece of card stock as the base for the holder. Use double stick tape to adhere the eight sticks next to each other on the card stock. Use markers or paint to paint each stick a different color. Let dry completely. Use a black market to add faces to each of the craft stick crayons. Cut around the cardstock with scissors, as close to the sticks as possible. Stick the note pad to the front of the crayons.

    Butterflies

    • Create butterflies using cardstock, tissue paper or construction paper to form wings on each side of a craft stick. Heart-shapes make excellent wings. Decorate with markers, crayon and glitter. Add a face to the butterfly with a black market.

    Chenille Craft People

    • Use chenille pipe cleaners to create clothing around a craft stick body. Use a marker to draw a face on the craft person. Yarn, feathers or pipe cleaners can be used to create hair.

    Letters and Numbers

    • Use crafts sticks and glue to create letters, words and numbers out of craft sticks.
