From Leprechauns to the first shoots of spring grass, March is all about green. Create some activities around the color green, including mixing blue and yellow paint to make green, cutting spring leaves from green paper and serving up a snack of all green foods. Make a green craft by painting each student's hand with tempera paint, then stamping on paper. When the paint dries, turn the hand print into a tree by adding a trunk with crayons or markers.
March roars "in like a lion", and you can make a cute lion puppet with a preschool class. For each puppet, you will need a brown paper lunch bag, gold pompoms, glue and markers. Let students draw a scary lion face on the base of the bag. Help students dip pompoms into white craft glue and then attach them around the face. Let dry, then insert your hand into the bag to use as a puppet. All items for this project can be found in the craft aisle of your local art store.
March goes "out like a lamb", so make a cute lamb to take home. Use white paper plates as the base, and add four strips of black ribbon for legs. Cut an oval shaped head out of black construction paper and glue it to the plate as the head. Dip cotton balls in white craft glue and stick them to the plate, covering the surface. Let the lambs dry before taking them home.
Use thick duct tape to make two bracelets for each child. Cut the tape long enough to slide easily over a child's hand onto the wrist and overlap the adhesive edges to seal. Place the bracelet around the wrist with the sticky side out. Take a nature walk and gather things that signify spring is on the way--shoots of grass, flower buds, fresh leaves and other springtime items. Let preschoolers place these on the sticky side of the tape to create unique, handmade spring bracelets.
