Scrapbooking is a fun and enjoyable way to watch your preschooler's creativity flourish and imagination soar. Gather necessary scrapbook materials from any stationary shop, and ask the preschooler to pick a theme before helping to gather pictures, illustrations and stickers for the chosen theme. This theme could be anything, from a birthday to a holiday to a favorite food. When everything has been collected, get to work. Organizing the material in a scrapbook helps children develop their motor and categorizing skills, while the finished product will bring fond memories for years to come.
Watching a good film is often an effective way to keep a preschooler entertained for a few hours. Ask him to choose one of his favorite movies or cartoons and watch it on your DVD player. While this can be an entirely recreational activity, it also can be an educational one. If you wish, pick out certain educational films or shows to help your preschooler learn.
A lot of the times kids love to flick through photo albums of people they know and love or places they have been. Help your preschooler identify and organize photographs from various events that she remembers. Point out people in the photographs, and ask if the preschooler recognizes or remembers them.
Children love to challenge themselves with board games. Of course, preschoolers are not yet at the stage where they can engage in anything too challenging, but games such as "Chutes & Ladders," "Frustration" and "Memory" are the most suitable for that age. Challenge the child yourself or encourage her to play with peers. This is sure to have your preschooler entertained for hours.
Provide your preschooler with paper or canvas, along with a pencil, a few paintbrushes and colored paint. Suggest that she paints something in the house or classroom. If she does not wish to do this, tell her that she can simply paint something using her imagination. Kids can spend hours just letting their creativity out on paper, while you can relax and do something else for a while.
