When making decisions about kindergarten programs, homeschooling is a viable option.   1. Calvert School

    • Calvert School's homeschool curriculum for kindergarten prepares students for first grade. The curriculum features a phonics-based approach that includes hands-on, interactive learning. Students learn reading skills with read-aloud books. Reading materials are integrated with social studies and science. Students also study poetry and art. Math lessons introduce students to numbers, shapes and problem solving. Students learn basic computer skills and formal printing skills.     A Beka Academy

    • A Beka Academy offers two separate homeschool curriculums for kindergarten students. Both the 4-year-old and 5-year-old courses teach children to read with phonics. Students also learn number concepts and counting, language development, cursive writing, music, art, poetry and Bible lessons. The cost for A Beka's K4 program begins at $225.     Alpha Omega Publications

    • Alpha Omega offers both Horizon and LIFEPAC kindergarten programs. Through the Horizon program, kindergarten students gain a solid foundation in math while learning addition and subtraction. Children learn reading skills in a hands-on course that covers the fundamentals of phonetics. Kindergarten electives are also available, such as health and physical education. The cost of Horizon's math, reading and phonics program for kindergarten is $200.95. The physical education elective is priced at $39.95 while the health elective is $20.95.

      The LIFEPAC program for kindergarten teaches language arts by focusing on key components of phonics and basic language skills. Through workbooks, students complete drills in consonants and vowels. Students also learn the basics of elementary math through counting, problem solving, addition and subtraction. The cost for Alpha Omega's LIFEPAC two-subject set for kindergarten, which includes both math and language arts, is $85.50. (See Reference 4)

    Sonlight Curriculum

    • The purpose of Sonlight's kindergarten curriculum is to establish the idea that "learning is fun." The curriculum introduces children to a wide range of topics. The program uses literature, including biographies and historical fiction, to teach students about history and culture. Other subjects are included, such as math, language arts, science and nature. Biblical lessons are also available. Sonlight offers four-day and five-day programs for kindergarten. The cost of the four-day program begins at $280.99, and the five-day program begins at $304.99.
