There are many games available that help second-graders learn to add basic numbers. Some of these include "Alien Addition," in which the student selects the correct answer to a math problem by moving a cannon to that answer and firing. "Ghost Blasters II" requires the students to shoot two ghosts (numbers) the combination of which equals a specified number. This game is for two players.
Some interactive games help students work on their second-grade-level subtraction facts. Some of these include Bowling Subtraction, which allows the student to knock down pins by correctly answering subtraction problems. "Mystery Picture" hides a picture under a set of tiles. The only way to remove tiles and reveal the picture is to answer subtraction problems. "The Timernator" is a simple game of answering the questions before time expires.
Basic counting skills are important to building up to higher math concepts. "Five Frame" is a game that builds counting skills while also teaching the child to count by fives, while "Ten Frame" meets the same need while teaching the child to count by tens. "Grouping and Grazing" allows the child to work on counting while grouping cows according to the answer to certain questions.
Second-graders begin to learn certain concepts that will help them with algebra concepts later in life. Interactive games give the student an opportunity to hone these skills. "Help Caillou Build a Train Track" teaches the child to match the pattern created by the track pieces to help the passengers get to the train station. A game called "What Number Would Complete This Sentence?" teaches students to find the missing number in a basic equation.
