Online Homeschooling Alternatives

Some parents may find the idea of homeschooling overwhelming. There are numerous curriculum choices, as well as the responsibility to create lesson plans, teach the lessons and keep accurate records. Fortunately, there are several online homeschool alternatives that make homeschooling much easier for parents. Students will also benefit from the experience that comes with an online homeschool program.
  1. Time4Learning

    • Time4Learning provides a secular homeschool curriculum that can be completed entirely online. No downloads are required as all of the lessons are available upon login after program enrollment. Time4Learning provides complete lessons in math, language arts, social studies and history for children in preschool through eighth grade. A six-week art course is also available after 30 days of membership has passed. Parents pay a low monthly membership fee to use Time4Learning, instead of the high yearly tuition that some other online homeschooling programs charge. Time4Learning is also not limited to the standard 10 month school year. Students can access the curriculum anytime over the entire calendar year.

    Jubilee Academy

    • Jubilee Academy provides preschool through twelfth grade students with a Christian curriculum that is nationally accredited. Students learn online through eBooks, CD-ROMs and videos. Workbooks are sent to the home so students can record answers to their daily lessons. Parents are responsible for grading some assignments, but most of the assignments are graded automatically upon completion via Jubilee's website. Tuition can be payed in one lump sum, or in smaller payments over the course of the 10 month school year. Jubilee Academy also provides its students with a safe social center so that they can interact with other homeschoolers online.

    Connections Academy

    • Connections Academy is a free public school program available to students online. Parents of children in kindergarten through twelfth grade can print textbooks, workbooks and lesson plans directly from Connections Academy's website. Instruction for each lesson is provided to the student via the website by a real teacher. Teachers will work with parents after enrollment to create a curriculum that is specific to each child. Connections Academy also offers several online clubs that will allow students to make new friends from around the country that share the same interests.

    MorningStar Academy

    • MorningStar Academy is an independent Christian homeschooling program available to children who are in kindergarten through twelfth grade. This accredited program provides live teachers who assist students during school hours between the months of September to June. A daily calendar is given so students can quickly see what work is due for the day. Lessons are available through MorningStar Academy's state of the art software. Tuition may seem high, but parents can pay it over the course of the 10 month school year.
