This 54-acre site was once home to several thousand Native Americans between 1000 A.D. to 1550 A.D. This is intact site houses many artifacts for students to see and experience. Remains of the original village are on site among the seven ceremonial mounds.

This is an adventurous location for homeschoolers to enjoy day of swimming, hiking and picnicking. Lake Allatoona, a 12,000-acre lake, was created when the area flooded at least two towns. This state park has 12 miles of hiking trails and a reconstructed 1860s log cabin (open on Saturdays). Students can learn about the rich iron-ore soil that gave the Red Top Mountain State Park its name.

With special exhibits all year, this downtown museum is filled with local history displays. An early dental office and phone switch board are a few of the unusual objects on view. The bookstore has many local histories not found in many bookstores. Students will enjoy learning about the history rich area of Bartow County.

The Tellus, a 120,000 square foot museum, promises to "open minds and ignite a passion for science." Tellus has four galleries: The original Weinman Mineral Gallery and Fossil Gallery, Science in Motion and a digital planetarium and observatory.

The Booth Western Art Museum provides children's programming and activities. Students can participate in summer day camps, Saturday programs and the Georgia Youth Cowboy Poetry Contest. Students can learn American history and western art from special student tours. Art classes are available at the Booth Art Academy.

A visit to this black history museum would be an excellent lesson during National Black History Month. This cultural center once housed the former Noble Hill Rosenwald School. Built in 1923, this school the first in northwest Georgia constructed with Rosenwald funds--dedicated to the education of black students.
