How to Add Single Digits for the First Grade

When young children enter first grade, they will need to learn the basics of mathematics, such as adding together single digit numbers. Many children have a difficult time understanding the abstract concepts of addition, and can benefit from utilizing additional techniques, like using visual manipulatives to represent the numbers being added together. This type of teaching can especially benefit children with learning differences, such as various forms of autism, dyslexia or ADHD.
