How to Make Different Shape Patterns for the First Grade

Young children like touching various objects and shapes, as this allows them to better understand how each shape is different from the other. There are a number of ways that you can introduce children to shapes. You can develop games that incorporate recognition of different shapes or include shapes when designing a bulletin board or as a part of an art lesson.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or make stencils for the shapes you want to make. It is fairly easy to make a traceable stencil out of cardboard or poster board. You can also buy stencils of different shapes at most craft stores or craft departments at retailers like Wal-Mart.

    • 2

Draw or print out the shapes you want to use for your stencils. If you're not proficient at freehand drawing, you can use the shape tool in a basic program like Paint to create a variety of shapes from hearts to rectangles to circles. For more complex shapes, download free clip art shapes, like the outline of a bear or tree.

    • 3

Use the shapes your drawn to create your stencils and then cut them out.

    • 4

Use your stencils to create your shapes of games, art projects and more. For example, you can create heart shaped tags with a word for a particular child to use in a sentence each day that week to receive a prize at the end of the week.
