How to Order an Iowa Test of Basic Skills for My Homeschooled Student

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is a test administered through the College of Education at the University of Iowa. The test measures student performance in grades K to 8 on several different metrics including vocabulary, reading comprehension, math, social studies and science, among others. The test consists of several parts and is usually administered in segments over several days. Parents and homeschool teachers cannot order a copy of the test for themselves.

      Review the University of Iowa's description and purpose of the ITBS to help you and your student prepare for the test.

      Contact Riverside Publishing to obtain a practice test. Practice tests are available and can be used to help prepare your student for the actual exam.

      Contact your local school district to schedule a time for your homeschooled student to take the actual exam. The ITBS can only be administered by a school district registered with the University of Iowa, and cannot therefore be administered by a parent or homeschool educator. Some school districts have a department that works with homeschooled children and can help you find a time for your student to take the exam.
