Make it fun. Use flash cards with sample problems on one side, and the answer on the other. A number of websites feature games to help make learning algebra a little less tedious. For example, the OnLine Math Learning website offers game such as Planet Blaster, Equation Match and Postman Phil, all of which are algebra based. Or have a friend or family member quiz you for a reward. For basic algebra, focus on ratio, proportions, percents, decimals, factors, fractions, exponents and order of operations when looking for sample problems.
Take a prep course. Programs such as Kaplan and PowerScore offer a GRE test preparation course and also includes live instruction. Both programs cost more than $300. You can also choose private tutoring or form a small study group of fellow GRE test takers.
Use textbooks. Multiple GRE books are available from retailers. Some are more general, and others focus on the math portion of the test. You can also purchase or rent basic algebra textbooks. Reviewing the material in these textbooks will assist you in learning basic algebra. Some books may also come with worksheets. Spend extra time studying your weaker areas.
Take a practice test. Those who register for the GRE are entitled to the free official test preparation materials available from GRE. These materials include test-taking strategies, a math review, test tutorials, sample questions and scoring guides. The GRE website also offers additional practice materials for a fee.
