Fun Christian Family Games

Family game time provides several benefits for families, according to Kit Bennett, who writes for the Amazing Mom website. Besides having fun together as a family, parents can teach their children about good sportsmanship, create positive memories and promote communication between parents and children. Parents often wonder what to play, and Christian parents may be looking for Bible-based games. Several choices exist for Christian games, and many are inexpensive or free.
  1. Free On-Line Christian Bible Games

    • On the Bible Word Games website, there's a section of online games appropriate for the whole family. For example, you can play Bible Hangman. You might spell Abraham or Joseph; and when you get an answer correct, a message pops up that says, "Praise God! The sinner repented." Noah's Ark is another game you can play on this site with family members. It's like the popular game Memory, and you are prompted to help Noah find his animals by matching them up two by two. Other games on this site are Jonah and the Whale, where you are using arrow keys to keep Jonah away from the whale; Bridges, which is not actually a biblical game, but the site tells you to think of yourself as Moses crossing the Red Sea; and Pac Man, the good old-fashioned arcade favorite. This site has Christian family games for all levels.

    Covenant Games

    • A company that makes family fun, Christian games is Covenant Games. One of its bestselling games, according to its website, is Guitar Praise, which is a similar concept to Guitar Hero. Guitar Praise comes with a guitar controller and can be played on the computer. There are also Bible trivia games that you can play on your television with a DVD player, and a kid-friendly version, too, called "Read and Learn Bible DVD" game. They sell several card games such as "Noah's Quest," which is a role-playing card game, and Bible Mad Gab card game, where players say silly phrases and try to guess which Bible verse they are referring to. Covenant Games also has Bible board games and family board games available.

    Homemade Games

    • You don't need a computer or a board game to play fun, Christian family games. You can also play homemade games. For example, you can go outside and play a regular game like kickball or wiffle ball. If you want to practice some Christian principles or Bible lessons, then create questions for each family member to answer before they are allowed to bat or kick. You can play a version of charades, where players act out people from the Bible, famous Bible stories such as Moses parting the Red Sea, or even Bible lessons like "Love your neighbor as yourself." Another easy homemade game takes a pad of paper and a pencil, and it is played like Pictionary. Come up with Bible names and phrases, divide your family into teams, and draw away. When it is one team's turn, they draw a phrase, and their teammates try to guess it.
