Classroom training and on-site experience provide students with the instruction needed in the fields of basic x-ray, billing and coding, cardiovascular technology and as a patient care technician. Teaching begins in the classroom and expands into practical use with interning in a physician's office. Training includes patient history, taking vital signs, first aid and CPR, patient preparation and physician assistance in examinations and treatments. You are also trained to administer diagnostic tests and the preparation of medication under the direction of a physician. Medical office skills are also taught. The projected length of the course is eight months. Financial assistance and grants are offered.
Ultimate Medical Academy, located in Tampa, is a dedicated institution offering training only in health care fields. Both in-class and on-line instruction is provided, including weekend and evening programs. Clinical procedures, administration of drugs, CPR, the business of running a medical office including processing insurance claims and an off-campus internship comprise some of the training. A thorough education prepares students for the Registered Medical Assistant and Certified Medical Assistant exam if they wish to take it. Completion of the course is projected at under one year. As a division of the Orange County Public School system, admission for adults is based on the Test of Adult Basic Education scores. The school's medical assisting course covers in-depth topics ranging from office management skills to physician assisting. Administering medications and pre-exam testing are also covered. The full course can be completed within one year if you attend on a full-time basis.
