A medical assistant is someone who assists doctors and other medical practitioners with their jobs. This assistance, however, goes far beyond just drawing blood or explaining diets or procedures to patients. A medical assistant also keeps schedules, appointments and patient files in order. They may do other tasks as well, such as ordering and stocking supplies, collecting lab specimens, and sterilizing instruments and other work tools and surfaces.
Muskegon Community College is a 111-acre campus with an open admission policy. This means you can take classes without having to go through a waiting process after application. You can go part time or full time. The four medical assistance programs include receptionist, office management, transcription, and basic medical office assistant. You can also elevate your medical education with their programs in nursing and emergency medicine.
Baker College of Muskegon offers a wide range of programs including certificates, associate's degrees, and even bachelor's degrees for a select few fields. For those who wish to train as a medical assistant, courses for a basic medical assistant, medical records technology/technician, and medical transcription are offered. Other medical fields are also covered, if you wish to further your education at a later date including surgery technicians, physical therapy fields, and emergency medicine.
If you don't have the time or are unable to attend a Muskegon technical college, there are still options to begin your career as a medical assistant. On-line technical programs exist to help people learn from home. These virtual campuses are available to people from the Muskegon area.
