The Coleman College of Health Sciences at Houston Community College offers a surgical technology program for individuals interested in caring for the surgical patient. Nurses who wish to move into the surgical field may find satisfaction in this program. The course prepares students for the national certification examination necessary to become certified. HCC will give the student a certificate of completion.
The Academy of Health Care Professions offers surgical technologist training in an array of medical disciplines. Students learn thoracic, laser, gynecological, obstetrical, and orthopedic surgery operating procedures and equipment. Medical law and professionalism is taught to prepare students for lifelong careers in the industry. The program is located in campus locations on the northwest and southwest side.
The surgical technologist program at Lone Star College is offered at the Tomball location. The program is three semesters long. Courses are offered for a total of 42 academic credits. Sample course offerings include surgical procedures, pathophysiology, medical terminology and fundamentals of perioperative concepts.
San Jacinto College offers a 12-month program in surgical technology. Courses include professional readiness and pharmacology. Students who wish to obtain an associate's degree in surgical technology may take math, science and humanities courses in the subsequent fall and spring semesters.
