How to Learn GED Math

The General Education Development test includes a math portion that is split into two parts, each containing 25 questions. You are permitted to use a calculator on the first part of the test, which covers basic algebra and geometry, data analysis and basic number operations. The second part of the mathematics portion includes estimation and mental math skills for which you are not permitted to use the calculator for this part.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or acquire a Casio fx-260 calculator, the calculator you will be given during the first part of the math test.

    • 2

Purchase a book or visit review websites to learn the basic mathematic topics covered on the GED.

    • 3

Complete practice tests to review what you have learned and assess your readiness for the GED math test. Complete as many practice tests as you can.

    • 4

Find a tutor to help you prepare for the tests. Tutors identify areas where you can improve, motivate you to learn and help you learn the material effectively.

    • 5

Review all of your resources and practice using your calculator again before taking the test. Remain positive as you study. Be confident that you can pass, yet not so confident that you don't study the material adequately.
