Instructions

    • 1

Take GED mathematics practice tests to see where you need the most improvement. Numerous practice tests are available online and are very similar to the real test. Check out study materials available at bookstores, online or at your local library.

    • 2

Locate a math tutor in your area. Many high schools and community colleges can refer you to tutors or can direct you to a GED prep class.

    • 3

Practice completing math problems without a calculator. A calculator can only be used on part of the test; you also will need to know how to solve problems using estimation and mental math. Space for writing out solutions and a math formulas page will be provided.

    • 4

Become accustomed to mathematics word problems. Many questions on the test require the test-taker to read a small passage and solve a problem.

    • 5

Practice using a Casio fx-260 calculator, the calculator approved for use on the GED test. Different brands of calculators feature different functions and abilities. Becoming familiar with the one you are allowed to use can save time.
