The Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency has a DUI school in Jackson, Tennessee, that follows the Prime for Life curriculum designed for prevention and behavioral change. Prime for Life uses evidence of previous offender violations to challenge societal norms and beliefs that contribute to negligent and dangerous drug and alcohol behavior. As of January 2011, 12.5 hour classes are scheduled for one Saturday of every month through June 2011. Classroom attendees are almost guaranteed individualized attention because classes never exceed 25 students at a time. Tuition is $135 and payments made be made by cash, credit card, debit card or money order.
Steps House, Inc.'s certified DUI classes also follow the Prime for Life curriculum model and are offered in two six hour segments. Classes never exceed 25 students. Potential students must first pay $75 to complete an alcohol and drug assessment for addiction before being registered for class. Upon satisfactory completion of the assessment, DUI offenders must allot at least 20 minutes to complete program intake procedures, attend orientation and register. Once registered, students are expected to attend both classes, which are generally scheduled for two days out of each month. Total tuition is $220 and includes the alcohol and drug assessment, a workbook used during teaching for students to follow along for content comprehension and a graduating certificate.
The DUI Academy of East Tennessee was established in 2008 by three psychologists. To reach offenders across the eastern part of the state, 2011 classes are scheduled for the second Saturday of each month at the Hampton Inn, Kodak in Sevier County and the third Saturday of each month at the Holiday Inn Express, Newport in Cocke County. Curriculum is designed to change how offenders think about drug and alcohol abuse so that outside influences cannot effectively stimulate negative behavior. Classes are 12 hours long and a fee of $125 must be paid by cash or money order before the start of each session.
