The International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Houston offers students the option to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree in culinary arts with a concentration in Pastry and Baking. Remington College in Dallas, Texas offers a diploma in Pastry Arts. Dallas is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Houston. However, the Dallas campus is the only Remington location in Texas that offers a program in pastry making. The curriculum of nine classes lasts nine months. The courses in the program consist of such topics as baking methodology, cakes and icing and confectionery art. This program concentrates not only on the ingredients and recipes but also on presentation. It is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position as a pastry chef.
